Our History

‚ÄčThe Soldiers’ Charity began as the Army Benevolent Fund in 1944. We are very proud of our rich history and are determined to make the most of the opportunities ahead of us, building on the last 70 years of success and support.

Today, the conflicts may be different, but the pressures on our soldiers remain. As we are all too aware from the news, the Army is bearing the strain of the current conflicts. Hundreds of soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan and Iraq with many more injured both mentally and physically.

That is why in 2007 the charity launched the Current Operations Fund, to support soldiers, former soldiers and their families affected by these conflicts.
Challenging and exciting times lie ahead.

Our Values

Integrity  We put the welfare of the Army family above all else.We always act with respect, honesty and fairness to support our soldiers, former soldiers and their families.

Loyalty    Year after year, soldiers, former soldiers and theirfamilies can depend on us to be standing by when help is needed.

Courage  We are here to support soldiers, former soldiers andtheir families in difficult situations. We give them the courage to make something positive out of even the most trying times.

Why does The Soldiers' Charity exist?

We are The Soldiers’ Charity. We give lifetime support to serving and retired soldiers and their families. They risk so much for us, but for them, it’s just doing their job. In return, we provide financial assistance when they are in real need. That’s what we’ve been here to offer for 70 years.

How We Help

ABF The Soldiers’ Charity are for soldiers, for life. We provide financial assistance to all soldiers and their families when in need. Even when a soldier leaves the Army they are still part of our family and eligible for our help. The scope of our work is huge. Half of our money is given direct to individuals to help in areas such as debt relief, mobility assistance, education bursaries, carehome fees and respite breaks. The other half is given as grants to other charities.
